Raising For Poker Hand Definitions

Raising in poker is for different reasons. Here are raising strategies for free poker cards and to clearly know what type of poker hand we have.

For instance, we're acting from a late position and our hand is a QJ. The flop showed 10, 9, and 4 rainbow and there remain three players. The first player decides to place a bet and the other players decide to call the bet. This may be a good time to raise.

What we want is either a king or an 8, but if the turn does not give us any such card, be comforted by knowing that we have raised, and that gives us the privilege to play at the river without having to bet or raise again, especially when the one who made the bet and those would call the bet all check the turn. And if the turn enabled us to complete a nut straight that makes us a large pot to win.

Raising helps us realize what we really have compared to our opponents. For instance, we're coming from late position with kings and we decide to raise a player to our right with a strong poker hand. The flop has clover ace, heart king, and 4 spade. Our opponent bets and we decide to re-raise. Now, for instance we're so familiar with the play of the opponent and know for sure that the opponent would never raise in such situation even if the opponent had an aces set on the flop.

Instead the opponent would have probably studied the flop and then decide to call our bet. Then, on the turn, the opponent would probably decide to check-raise. Say, we guess that the opponent's hand is a suited AJ, so we put him on AK, and the turn result is a 6h. The opponent bets and we raise. The opponent calls. If the flop of an aces set were true, the opponent should have re-raised because that hand is a likely winner on the turn.

At this point we both know more or less what the other has. Maybe, he is thinking we both have an aces set. When the river shows 8h the opponent bets, we raise, and the opponent re-raises. There we see we guessed wrong. He more probably played into the pot with a suited AJ and on the bet on the turn attempted to steal the pot.

It is essential in raising to have the skill to correctly asses what poker hand we and the opponent have.
